HSRP-491
Cues, copied bill texts and penalties for dissent are on record on both sides; the internal records found so far come from one side only.

The markers, on both sides. Institutions moved on political and legal cues in both directions, and American opinion moved in both parties at once (HOW A HIVE MOVES AS ONE BODY). Laws traveled by template: comparing more than 130 bills in 40 legislatures with two advocacy groups' model bills, from Do No Harm and the Family Research Council, the Associated Press found many "identical or very similar" [SRC-890]; a 2025 study found "extensive text borrowing" in bans on such treatment and in bans on conversion therapy alike [SRC-891]. The records differ in depth: one side's includes a guideline body's own emails, disclosed in court [SRC-814]; no comparable internal record from the restriction side has yet been found.

Penalties for departing from a side's line are on record in both directions. Tribunals found a researcher discriminated against for her gender-critical belief ( Forstater , 2022) and a gender-fluid engineer harassed at work ( Taylor v Jaguar Land Rover , 2020); a Georgia school board dismissed a teacher for reading a picture book on gender fluidity to her class (2023) [SRC-892]. Trial judges who heard the medical evidence reached opposite findings, and the higher courts that reversed did so on the legal standard, not on the facts [SRC-893] [SRC-894].

Coordinated positions today. In the dispute over gender medicine for minors, coordination is on record on both sides (see WHERE YOU'LL FIND IT, on /the-hive-mind). A guideline body's internal emails, disclosed in litigation, show its standards shaped by cues from insurers and changed on cues from legislation [SRC-814]. Many state bills restricting that care were "identical or very similar" to advocacy groups' model bills [SRC-890]. One side's internal record has been disclosed and the other's has not; whether that asymmetry is real is an OPEN QUESTION. Neither record shows a hive being built, only a line drafted for others to hold.

6. Why this grade
PROBABLE; cue-following as the reason WORKING; the gap in internal records an OPEN QUESTION
The register defines OPEN QUESTION as: Deliberately unresolved, not incomplete: a stated gap the project publishes on purpose, naming a question no study has yet tested and recording a proposed design.

- HSRP-330 · ESTABLISHED · The mechanism is not partisan, and the evidence for that is stronger and more specific than a symmetry claim. An adversarial collaboration of researchers from three opposing camps, with an independent moderator conducting the analyses, catalogued 44 measures of rigidity and retained the single one all adversaries accepted as unconfounded: evidence-based belief updating. Across 6,181 preregistered participants, general and social conservatism predicted less updating at |b| ~ .05, below the threshold for a small effect; economic conservatism predicted nothing; political extremity at both poles predicted slightly more than direction; moderates were least rigid; and 54-68% of all participants updated toward the evidence in every domain tested. The adversaries' agreed conclusion: the practical utility of ideology as a predictor of rigidity is questionable, and the field should examine when and where rather than who. A separate meta-analysis (N = 187,612) found the conservatism-rigidity association tremendously heterogeneous, robust for social but not economic conservatism, absent outside the United States for economic conservatism, and inflated in prior literature by nonrepresentative sampling, criterion contamination and US-weighting. What survives of the asymmetry: the far right is the most rigid single group; left-wing authoritarians score LOWER than right-wing authoritarians on dogmatism and cognitive rigidity, though they score higher on behavioural aggression and correlate strongly with participation in political violence. THIS FRAMEWORK'S READING, stated as its own: a weak domain-general effect alongside strong context-specific effects is what a content-neutral, identity-triggered mechanism predicts. If the condition were a property of one political disposition it would be a trait and a general test would find it readily. The adversaries independently recommend looking for the robust effects in narrow contexts — where the information concerns a hot-button issue for a particular group — which is identity-fusion specificity under another name. KAHAN REATTRIBUTION, added 2026-09-24: this null is older than the 2025 adversarial collaboration. Kahan reported it in 2013 (SRC-437), generating both observational and experimental data "inconsistent with the hypothesis that political conservatism is distinctively associated with either unreflective thinking or motivated reasoning" — verified verbatim from that paper's abstract.Relation: not recorded
- HSRP-463 · PROBABLE · Media rarely create a hive: they reset what trusting audiences hold, coordinate the committed and reflect the line back, a loop rather than a source; whether algorithms create hives over years is an open question.Relation: not recorded
- HSRP-488 · CONTESTED · "Relatively new": the words are new, but gender-variant roles are old, and whether those roles and today's self-declared identities are one phenomenon is disputed.Relation: not recorded
- HSRP-489 · CONTESTED · "Relatively explosive" fits youth gender clinic demand from about 2010, fits survey answers much less, and is not current; social influence as a cause is disputed.Relation: not recorded
- HSRP-490 · CONTESTED · Every systematic review cited rates the evidence on puberty blockers and hormones for adolescents low or very low in certainty; what follows from that divides the sides.Relation: not recorded
- HSRP-492 · PROBABLE · The older gender norm is policed too: modest men and self-promoting women pay a social price, imposed by evaluators of both sexes.Relation: not recorded
- HSRP-493 · PROBABLE · "Hyperbolic" fits every side's figures on regret, continuation and desistance: each is true in its frame and overstated when generalized.Relation: not recorded
- HSRP-494 · ESTABLISHED · Biology defines two sexes by the two kinds of reproductive cell; "un natural", like WPATH's 2010 call not to judge gender variance "as inherently pathological or negative", is a value position.Relation: not recorded
- HSRP-495 · WORKING · The hive in this debate lies in organized camps, institutions, labels and positions held because one's side holds them, on every side; never in any person's own sense of his or her gender, or in any group of people as a class.Relation: not recorded
- HSRP-533 · PROBABLE · From 1310 to 1687 seven Western condemnations, Catholic and Protestant, named an inner teaching as the offense where it claimed freedom from the office's means; mystics within the sacraments were made saints.Relation: not recorded
- HSRP-534 · PROBABLE · Elsewhere an inner doctrine was named more often than it decided, with faction, succession or a crisis at the center at work too.Relation: not recorded
- HSRP-591 · ESTABLISHED · Edward Bernays called "the conscious and intelligent manipulation of the organized habits and opinions of the masses" the work of "an invisible government": the engineering of opinion in its engineer's words, done by publicists for clients.Relation: not recorded
- HSRP-592 · SPECULATIVE · Polybius judged that superstition held the Roman state together, and Augustine reports a Roman high priest thinking it "expedient … that states should be deceived in matters of religion"; that religion was invented for rule is speculative.Relation: not recorded
- HSRP-593 · PROBABLE · States shape belief through broadcasting and schooling, mostly in the open, and the largest lasting effect came where total control met the schoolroom; a measured effect of Soviet propaganda on belief, or of catechism or curriculum on adult obedience, is not yet found.Relation: not recorded
